Press Release
Mediolanum Corporate University
Teaching Excellence
Banca Mediolanum is today inaugurating MCU, Mediolanum Corporate University, an educational institution whose objective is to safeguard and disseminate the knowledge, culture and values of the company.
MCU was fostered due to the central role of training in the bank's scale of values. Suffice it to mention that in 2008 alone the Bank conducted 306 classroom days and 1,882 persons participated in the lessons for a total of 6,887 student days. The 2009 plans call for 630 classroom days, 10,968 student days and a total of 2,790 participants.
One demonstration of the importance of investing in training is the number of agents prepared by Banca Mediolanum over the years who have passed the CONSOB examination for acceptance into the Financial Promoters Register, which in 2008, for example, was 42.7% compared to 33.5% of the rest of those tested.
Further confirmation of the value of ongoing training, and a point of pride, is that it has enabled the Family Bankers to manage themselves and their customers even in this time of crisis, obtaining positive inflow month after month. MCU is therefore the natural evolution from business unit to training department to corporate university, a central repository for all the courses designed to achieve excellence in relations with customers, in financial consulting, and in managing the savings of families.
The Training ProgramMCU plans the training programs for the individual employees based on an analysis of their career objectives and then designs the study plan that will be developed at the same time on both the professional and personal levels.
It is also based on a "lifelong learning” approach, which follows the trainees throughout their careers, providing courses, seminars, internships, and self-teaching programs designed to sustain every phase of professional development.
The CoursesThe current training curriculum of MCU consists of 27 classroom courses and 32 on-line courses, plus time-to-market initiatives.
There are three main areas of study:
- Behavioral (I Am), which includes personal and managerial development, communication techniques, coaching and leadership, and talent development.
- Technical-commercial (I Work), which includes training in financial products, services and IT supports.
- Technical-regulatory (I Know), which includes study of the legal and regulatory aspects.
The FacultyMCU has 119 instructors, all managers who have personally helped write the history of Banca Mediolanum, plus some outside consultants selected from the best available internationally, and a
Scientific Committee. The task of the committee is to stimulate creative ideas and develop contacts and relationships with universities and outside research centers, to maintain an innovation orientation. It is composed of bank managers and representatives of the academic world, sports, communication and business.
Knowledge ManagementMedBrain is the “virtual port” of entry to MCU, the gateway for participating in on-line courses, always part of a personalized plan, and for exchanging opinions or sharing materials, news and information with other users. Through MedBrain, the self-teaching activity becomes essential and preparatory to classroom courses, where the knowledge and experience gained during individual study can be shared.
The CampusThe school building includes 24 classrooms built with materials and an architectural layout that promote study and discussion among participants and group work. In addition to the classrooms, there is the
Plenary Hall that can seat around a hundred persons. Three snack rooms have been provided to promote the exchange of ideas, while the
Mens Sana room is the place for sorting ideas and re-energizing.
The building also contains a
Medioteca, which strives to become the largest collection of documents on the subject of negotiating and selling, and a
Museum where the mementos and memoirs that tell the story of the bank are preserved and displayed.
The bank has also acquired a residence next to the school building, a living facility with 75 well-equipped rooms, around-the-clock reception desk, breakfast room and bar. This entire facility of over 4,000 square meters is located in Milano 3, next to the headquarters of Banca Mediolanum.
The Mediolanum CommunityAnother objective of MCU is to increase the economic-financial knowledge of people, whether already bank customers or not, so that they can help generate their own wealth. To that end, we have structured a program composed of seven modules concerning such topics as life cycle, financial planning, family and asset protection, creation and consolidation of economic stability, achieving life's objectives, home and properties, and retirement age.
