Eventi

For years the Mediolanum Group and Banca Mediolanum have sought to extend their presence to aspects of daily life not directly associated with financial matters. It therefore organizes and participates in various social, cultural and sporting events, proposing initiatives to help resolve those situations that require support.

Solidarity initiatives

Being close to our customers and employees in difficult times is one of our key values. We have therefore organized various solidarity initiatives, providing support and meaningful contributions in time of trouble:
  • In 1994, following the flooding in Piedmont, we established an unsecured fund of one billion liras.
  • In 2008, Banca Mediolanum intervened on policies with underlying Lehman bonds to avoid losses to its customers. In the same year, we unilaterally reduced the spread on mortgages with a total benefit of € 65 million to customers and instituted a "solidarity fund" for mortgage holders who due to serious illness or accident were no long able to pay their installments, a transaction of € 8 million.
  • In 2009, following the earthquake in Abruzzo, we donated € 1 million.
  • In 2010 , for the flooding in Veneto , Banca Mediolanum contributed over € 1 million.
  • In 2011, for the flooding in Liguria, Tuscany and Sicily, we contributed over € 1 million and offered customers the possibility of suspending payments on outstanding mortgages and loans for one year.
  • In May 2012, in the wake of the earthquake in Emilia Romagna, we made a donation of € 2 million. In addition, we offered the possibility to suspend mortgage and loan payments for 12 months, reduced the spread on existing mortgages and loans by 1% for two years, and cancelled all charges on existing current accounts for two years (i.e. maintenance charges, credit card and cash machine charges, charges on securities deposit accounts, and all the stamp taxes on those instruments). Banca Mediolanum also approved low-interest mortgages (with a spread of 2.40%) and granted privileged lines of credit on bonds and loans, at a rate of EURIBOR +1.50%. These financial facilitations represented a cost for Banca Mediolanum initially estimated at € 3 million, in terms of lost revenues and increased costs, which added to the € 2 million in direct donations made a total of € 5 million.
  • In November 2012, for the flooding that hit central Italy, Banca Mediolanum set aside € 500,000 to be allocated free of charge to customers and Family Bankers who suffered material damage and instituted the same facilitations described in the previous point.
  • In February 2013, for the flooding in Catania, Banca Mediolanum set aside € 500,000, also offering all customers and Family Bankers who suffered material damage the possibility of suspending mortgage and loan payments for 12 months, reducing the spread on existing mortgages and loans by 1% for two years, granting privileged lines of credit on credits and loans at a rate of EURIBOR +1.5% and cancelling for two years all charges on existing current accounts, i.e. maintenance charges, credit card and cash machine charges, charges on securities deposit accounts, and all the stamp taxes on those instruments.
A grant of €200,000 has been earmarked for the flooding in the Veneto region, offering the possibility to suspend mortgage and loan payments for 12 months, reduce the spread on existing mortgages and loans by 1% for two years, and completely eliminate for 2 years all costs on existing current accounts, namely the monthly fee, credit and debit card fees, securities deposit fees and all stamp duties on these instruments.
Another grant of €200,000 has been earmarked following the earthquake in Lunigiana and Garfagnana, offering the possibility to suspend mortgage and loan payments for 12 months, reduce the spread on existing mortgages and loans by 1% for two years, and completely eliminate for 2 years all costs on existing current accounts, namely the monthly fee, credit and debit card fees, securities deposit fees and all stamp duties on these instruments.
A further grant of €200,000 has been earmarked in the aftermath of the flooding that has impacted various provinces in Tuscany, particularly Lucca but also Florence, Pistoia, Pisa and Siena, offering the possibility to suspend mortgage and loan payments for 12 months, reduce the spread on existing mortgages and loans by 1% for two years, and completely eliminate for 2 years all costs on existing current accounts, namely the monthly fee, credit and debit card fees, securities deposit fees and all stamp duties on these instruments.
